Superb amethyst pendant from Brazil with large bubble enhydro
Note that there is limited movement of the bubble, so if you are looking for lots of bubble movement, this one might NOT be for you. But quite a large bubble!
There are some beautiful hematite filament inclusions too.
Enhydro bubbles are not as common in amethyst due to the conditions of their formation (amethyst is formed under conditions that are not as conducive to the trapping of fluid inclusions; the presence of iron and other volatile elements can influence the formation and behavior of fluid inclusions, making the bubble less likely to occur or be preserved in amethyst crystals). Most of the bubbles in the amethysts are small in size. Most often than not, the bubble is in the "clear section" of the quartz, rather than in the purple section.
Approximate dimensions for the pendant 2.5 x 1.7 x 0.7 inches (63x42x20mm)
Approximate weight 232 carats / 46 grams / 1.6 oz
The pendant is stamped Silver. We are adding a metal chain with it, such a cool piece!!!
We love it, don't miss it!!
NOTE: The issue of fake and altered enhydros!
Rest reassured: we only sell GENUINE enhydros as we test every single one of them prior to listing them.
Based on our trips to mineral markets in Brazil, Madagascar, Tanzania, China etc…, while we regularly see man-made enhydros, they remain RARE and quite pricey due to the numerous and costly steps required to make one: drilling the crystal, filling with a liquid, sealing the opening with some sort of epoxy material, polishing to hide the alteration. That’s a lot of work, thus their high prices.
If you notice a surface reaching fracture on your crystal, it is most likely the result of the cutting and polishing process, but not an alteration. A simple visual inspection anyway will seldom show the alteration, as multiple tests with technical equipment is required.
In conclusion, avoid panicking if a “know-it-all” individual tells you your enhydro is fake. Unless they can show you the alteration under UV light or polariscope or microscope etc…., then they are alarming you for no reason. We perform all these tests on the enhydros we sell so that you don’t have to worry about your crystal!
A word of CAUTION: do not clean your enhydro in these vibrating ultrasonic cleaners! The crystal may have micro-fractures and the last thing you want is for the bubble to slowly escape! Also do not clean your quartz in super-hot or extremely cold water, as this will cause stress on the crystal, and it may break. So, use lukewarm water (and if you use a toothbrush, do not use the vibrating kind!)
ENHYDRO DEFINITION
Here is a simplified explanation of what is an “ENHYDRO”, these trapped bubbles in a liquid inside a crystal. Simply put, quartz typically forms in hot water (containing dissolved silica). As the crystal grows at different speeds, liquid can be trapped as the rest of the crystal continues to grow around it. As the crystal cools down, the trapped liquid then contracts and forms a vapor bubble. This is how “enhydros” form (scientist refers to these as “fluid inclusions”). The liquid can trap also other elements such as carbon, oil (petroleum trapped in quartz from Pakistan for example) etc... These are basically “geochemical time capsules” of the environment in which the crystal was growing. There are documented examples of fluid inclusions dating the early Precambrian (3 billion years old!).

The boring part:
All sales are final, no returns are accepted, no exceptions.
All items are described to the best of our knowledge along with the actual unaltered pictures of the item (photographs often disclose condition far better than words). Pictures are part of the description. If a defect is visible in the images and video, it is considered disclosed to the buyer: please do not purchase the item if they are not up to your standards. All items are sold as is, so ask all questions prior to buying, we will do our best to answer them promptly, and can always send additional pictures, so do not hesitate.
International buyers:
IGNORE the automated prices for shipping and contact us directly. Prices vary significantly from country to country, depending on if you want tracking, insurance or expedited. Contact us and we will give you a quote. We ship internationally regularly (Australia, South Korea, France, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Germany etc...). Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price and are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office prior to buying to determine what these additional costs may be. The shipping time can be delayed by time spent in Customs which is beyond our control. We do not ship to certain countries (Italy, Brazil, Nigeria etc.…) where the post office has a repeated tendency to help themselves in the packages sent, sorry… In case of doubt, check with us prior to buying.
And finally, some important clarifications:
- We cannot be held responsible if your package gets lost in the mail. Should you require insurance for your package, let us know at the time of purchase and we will give you a quote.
- We cannot be held responsible if you did not read the item detailed description or missed something: ask question / additional pictures as needed, we'll be glad to oblige.
- We are not Amazon, it is unlikely that we will ship within the hour of your purchase. We do not have a 'return-as-you-wish' policy because you’ve changed your mind. In the rare cases we decide to accept a return (WE decide), there will be a restocking fee which you will have to formally approve: what it means is you cannot come back afterwards demanding to be reimbursed for that fee. If these terms do not work for you, it’s ok, Etsy is a wonderful platform with plenty of options. Sending you plenty of positive energies!
